If you have any question and/or suggestion in regards to the community, feel free to comment in this post.
If your suggestion is about themes, go here; and if you have any first doubt about claims check here... this post is for all that doesn't fit in any other post. You're also welcomed to PM me if you prefer to do so but I thought that any doubt that one user might have could solve a future user's question and thus this space.

Date: 2010-03-25 09:55 pm (UTC)My asking is because in theory I don't have any problem but trying to think of how it could be judged I find myself thinking that it would be too hard not for the lack of trusting the iconmaker but the fact that the quantity of fanart will more than likely not be as high as a series/show/comic/etc.
So now I'm wondering if it could be at all possible for people to use fanart, here's hoping you have an insight on at least what fanart you wanted to use ;)
Thank you!

Date: 2010-03-25 10:19 pm (UTC)But I do tend to make more icons from the official stuff, to be fair.

Date: 2010-03-25 10:38 pm (UTC)For what you said at this moment in time I'm inclined to accept use of fanart, there would be need to reach an agreement on how many icons, for if someone wanted to do just the fanart then they could just make it their claim. Of course I would hope that the icon makers didn't use fanart that the artist requested not to be reused, to me it's not a touchy topic... unless I guess if some artist contacted me complaining or so forth then I would aim to find a solution between artist and iconmaker but yeah, I personally don't see the harm in the use of fanart. This is fandom, pretty much all goes ;)

Date: 2010-03-25 11:06 pm (UTC)I probably wouldn't use only fanart unless I specified it in the claim, like I said I just like having my options in case there is a theme that I have a fanart image that's better suited for it than an official one. :)

Date: 2010-03-28 11:37 am (UTC)I think the only limitation on the use of the fanart would be that the fanart had been published before the themes went up, so as to make sure that in the future no one can claim there was any trickery or the like ;)

Date: 2010-03-29 04:08 pm (UTC)All icons will have to be submitted together in one go, that's to say you can't post themes one day and then after a week the category and artist's choice set.
But you may post all 20 icons whenever you've done them, you don't have to wait until the 20th to post them, for the 20th is the deadline.
If you have any more questions or what I write does not make sense, do keep asking questions =)

Date: 2010-04-21 06:13 pm (UTC)If I claim a story (for example, a fairy tale) which has been made in media in many different formats, can I claim the base story and use images from several different formats (book illlustrations, animated movies, live action movies)?
If I claim a character who has appeared in both movies and spin-off television shows for the same series (or in reverse order), can I user images from both tv and movies or should I restrict to one or the other? An example here might be Daniel Jackson who crosses between the original Stargate movie, as well as the main series, and several of the spin-off series, and between all of that has two different faces.
And a clarification... if I claim a show / movie / band or other group, I need to icon at least two members/ characters but not in the same icon, yes? IE, if I claim SG1 as a whole, I'd need to make icons of at least two characters (we'll use Sam and Daniel as examples here) but the icons can be of one or the other character, yes?
I'm just trying to make sure I understand my limits and the places where I can push them. Then I need to decide which thing on my list of fandoms is the one I want to attack next!

Date: 2010-04-21 08:03 pm (UTC)Wow, such an interesting concept that of the 'claim a story' , & yes, I'm on board, of course it would be required for those media to be specified and for all of those media specified to appear on the claim.
Character, yes it is accepted but you would have to specify when claiming. i.e. Daniel Jackson (movie & shows), just to make sure the claim is complete, since in my mind depending on the example I might not be aware of duality of actors or something.
Yes, they don't need to show in the same icon but there must be more than one character in all icons, since if you only icon one character then you should have claimed that character and not the whole film/show/etc

Date: 2010-04-21 09:24 pm (UTC)Okay, on the story then, I'd better make sure I have access to images from all the possible sources, so that means THAT one ain't happening this round. Since the particular story I want to claim has at least four potential sources that are very high profile, plus a few others that are lower profile. My thought was to mix and match and combine sources into single images... so I might also need a bit more skill before I get there too.
Gotcha on the character going across multiple shows/movies. I'll make sure if I use that one that I specify.
And excellent, that's what I needed to know on show/band.
I'm still waffling on a claim for this round since I have so so SO many thoughts. I'm really ready to just go through the next year.
I assume that in subsequent rounds, people can claim things that were claimed before in prior rounds? Can we ever go back and do the same claim we had once before? Like, a year from now could I claim William again? Not that I'm planning on it, I'm just curious. Especially since with a show claim (like Glee, which has such a large ensemble cast) 20 icons is barely the tip of what could be done with it.

wow. that sounds wickedly cool.
thanks for the different questions I will later aim to edit the claims post so it has all these little questions that you guys think of and make the understanding of claims so much easier.

& I'm kind of drawing blanks on iconizing this month XD thus why I will miss this round since I will have to make banners I think I will gear my icon making skills for the banners which will be challenging ;)
Yes, if it wasn't the last round's claim you may claim it again. It's to make sure there's diversity but for example if you wanted to iconize your heart out on Glee, you could claim one round a character or pairing, the other another different character or pairing, then the show itself, an episode of the show, etc, etc. There's heaps of possibilities if someone just wants to work around one 'thing' but yeah, the intention is to spice it up and make people icon different stuff but again that could be what a few users could be claiming if they all came to claim the show and someone had already done so... now should that happen at any point and we reached the limit of 50 users I would add more slots so more variety would be in play instead of having 20 people just working around one show XD - which in a way would be cool but then that would tell me I maybe should consider making a community of 20in20 just for that show.
I don't know why my answer went way past the topic of your question.
If you wanted to claim William for the next round (June) you could do so.

Date: 2010-04-22 02:19 pm (UTC)Awesome, I may need this in the future, although really, I'm going to try to get all the caps BEFORE I claim something so I know what I'm working with. And it's less time consuming!
My thought was to mix and match and combine sources into single images... so I might also need a bit more skill before I get there too.
wow. that sounds wickedly cool.
It probably sounds WAY cooler than I have the ability to execute. *smiles* But hey, it's on my list of things to do in the future!
I don't know why my answer went way past the topic of your question.
If you wanted to claim William for the next round (June) you could do so.
Perfect. I don't need William back right away, but certain shows like Glee and Degrassi and Skins I could easily see myself rotating around several times. But just in case, I locked myself into one character for Degrassi this round.
And yes, I agree on the love of diversity in iconning and I'm trying to do the same thing myself. Which is why I know I'll have topics for a while. I figure, if I pick the fandom, you post the prompts, and that's what kicks off the rest of the creativity for me. Right?

Date: 2010-04-22 02:58 pm (UTC)IDK, I just hope you guys can work with what I give you, you all surpass what my brain comes up with so, really, nothing to complain about... I'm quite sure the talent you all have make anything I've done so far look greater and better than it did in my head before you all worked with it XD

Date: 2010-04-27 02:59 pm (UTC)Hm. There's a graphic_tutorial comm I joined yesterday, but I'm not sure if there's a specific icon_tutorial comm. *goes to look * Oh. Okay, so there's a comm. It has one member, who created it, and that journal is deleted... I wonder if there's a way to do something about that... I'd be happy to moderate that comm.

Date: 2010-04-27 04:40 pm (UTC)do you have a link to that icon tutorial comm? or we could create our own? I wouldn't mind moding either =D

Date: 2010-04-27 05:42 pm (UTC)interesting, I tend to keep all the psp files and I just tend to play with curves and lighting/contrast/saturation layers, sometimes I add text but I'm not a big fan of my text icons so I don't make *that* many, I force myself to do them but yeah =/
let me see if I find out something, if not I will let you know and we can go for icon_tutorials but considering similarity of names I think it might be better if there was only one so there was no confusion (of course once someone looks a bit into it there wouldn't but still... I'm bit picky on that stuff XD)

Date: 2010-04-27 06:02 pm (UTC)Text I still have a love/hate relationship with. When it works, I love it. When it doesn't... oh do I ever hate it. It's a fight! But I keep fighting it, too.
That's what I was thinking -- I wanted the name that was easiest to find! The one that's pretty instinctive and expected, and I think having the other one could get confusing. Hopefully there is someone to ask who can help!

Date: 2010-04-27 06:36 pm (UTC)I think if you spend the time on an artistic crop as opposed to one just designed to show face and expression, and if any masking is done at all, anything other than simple light/color, then it counts as artsy. For me, I think I define that as anything I spend more than a minute or two on as artsy. :)
Maybe we should just go with icontutorial so we can set it up properly from the start? I'd had to start asking people to join a comm when we can't put up a proper profile for it, or edit any of its properties or anything, y'know what I mean?
It should also be a good place for resources, like posts about fonts, places to get brushes and masks, things like that, maybe? Because for me, that's a big part of what I need when making icons, finding all those silly little things that let me play with it in the hunt of the happy accidents.
Your bouncing elephant keeps distracting me... boing... boing... boing...

Date: 2010-04-27 06:56 pm (UTC)that's a good idea, do you want to create it and then add me as co-mod or do you want me to do that? & yes I totes know what you mean & agree.
resources posts - THAT IS GREAT. I would suggest we made the sticky post one that is a masterlist of the resources posts, that way when more resources pop up in time they can be added over to the masterlist and be handy for people to get to.
lol. i love that icon, it's not by me, i saw it on lj and i was like 'up... down... up... down...' and after a bit I shook my head and said I must snag this! so I did XD

Date: 2010-04-27 07:06 pm (UTC)I'll go create it and add you. Then we need to get info onto the profile, make the sticky post (love that idea for the resources) and get at least one tutorial posted so we have something in it and can advertise it? We totally need people to come post things too. :)
And YES that's how I was looking at that icon. It's... distracting! *laughs*

Date: 2010-10-16 02:28 pm (UTC)...What I mean is, if your entry pages show up in DW's default style, the icons are squeezed together (example). If you use customized pages, the table looks like it should (example).
It's probably DW's fault: when I tested the table on LJ, it worked whether the entry page was in default style or customized. It's just a minor annoyance so no worries, but I thought I might as well ask since I was wondering about it. :)

Date: 2010-10-18 09:10 pm (UTC)Anyway, please don't spend too much time on the table! Like I said, it's just a minor annoyance and since the table looks so nice otherwise, I'm happy to use it. :D
